Mobility Window

To further encourage SAS students to go abroad, we implemented the SAS Mobility Window. The Mobility Window allows a maximum of 6 ECTS credits to be transferred to the SAS programme without an equivalence assessment. Instead, these credits are recognised directly by the Examination Board.

However, the following restrictions apply:

  • The Mobility Window can only be used for module groups A2, B2, C2, D, or for the “Master Thesis” module group (replacing Org-M-08).
  • Within the Mobility Window, no detailed equivalence assessment is conducted. However, there must be a general thematic fit with the module group in which recognition is sought. The basis for this assessment is the course syllabus, which must be submitted together with the credit transfer application to the Examination Board.
  • If the Mobility Window is to be used within module group D “Research” or within the module group “Master Thesis”, the course must take the form of a seminar and the assessment must be based on a seminar paper.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Mobility Window and a Learning Agreement?

A Learning Agreement and the SAS Mobility Window differ mainly in the way recognition is granted.

A Learning Agreement is based on an equivalence assessment. Before going abroad, the student contacts the chair responsible for the SAS module to be replaced. The chair examines whether the course taken abroad is sufficiently equivalent in terms of content, workload, and assessment. If so, the chair confirms in advance that the credits will later be recognised for a specific SAS module. The Learning Agreement therefore provides certainty before the stay abroad and leads to the replacement of a concrete module.

By contrast, the SAS Mobility Window does not require a detailed equivalence assessment and does not replace a specific module. Instead, up to 6 ECTS credits can be recognised within certain module groups (A2, B2, C2, D, or Master’s Thesis), provided that the course abroad has a general thematic connection to the respective module group. Recognition is granted directly by the Examination Board on the basis of the course syllabus.
